Nurse registration: INC and your state nursing council
A nurse or midwife needs registration with a state nursing council to work. This guide shows the order of steps and what to keep ready.
Not yet verified against the official source. Treat this as a starting point and confirm every detail on the official site below.
Who this is for
GNM, ANM and B.Sc. nursing graduates starting out, and nurses changing state.
Steps
- 1Finish your course from an institution recognised by the Indian Nursing Council (INC) and your state nursing council.
- 2Apply to the nursing council of the state where you studied or will work, on its official portal or office.
- 3Submit your certificates and identity proof, pay the council fee, and keep the acknowledgement.
- 4Collect your registration certificate and note the registration number: most hospital forms ask for it.
- 5Diarise renewal. Councils ask for renewal at fixed intervals, and a lapsed registration can block a job offer.
Keep these ready
- Course completion / mark sheets
- Date of birth proof
- Identity proof
- Passport photographs
- Internship completion certificate (where your course has one)
Common mistakes
- Applying to the wrong state council. Check which council accepts your course.
- Letting renewal lapse while changing jobs.
- Name or date of birth that differs between certificates. Fix it before you apply.
